For her historic achievement at the Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz becomes Philippine Airlines' first Forever Flyer

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) joined companies that have rewarded weightlifting wonder Hidilyn Diaz for giving the Philippines its first-ever Olympic gold medal.

On Tuesday, July 27, PAL said Diaz will get 80,000 free miles per year for life.

“This makes her not only the first Filipina Olympic gold medalist, but also Philippine Airlines’ first Forever Flyer,” said PAL president and chief operating officer Gilbert Santa Maria.

“It has long been the flag carrier’s mission to support outstanding Filipino athletes to enable them to showcase their skills to the world. Hidilyn’s life journey exemplifies hard work, determination, and powerful faith, all of which led her to her Olympic victory and the new world record she set,” Santa Maria added.

Diaz will be able to fly across PAL’s domestic, regional, and international routes using her flight miles.

The free flight miles will allow at least three round-trip flights between Manila and Zamboanga under business class, or five times if she chooses to fly economy, in a year.

Internationally, the airline perk will allow Diaz to have a free round-trip business class flight from Manila to Australia per year.

With Diaz being PAL’s first Forever Flyer, the flag carrier said it will roll out the program in the coming months for other travelers to “fly for life.”

Diaz can also choose to fly for free via AirAsia, which has rewarded the Olympic gold medalist with free flights for life, too.

Diaz is set to come home on Wednesday, July 28. Awaiting her are multimillion-peso cash rewards, a condominium unit, and two house and lot units. – Rappler.com
