MANILA, Philippines – The semi-finals round of The Voice Kids PH 2 is fast approaching, with the Top 6 ready to battle it out on the live stage on August 22 and 23.

At the show’s press conference on August 19, Zephanie Dimaranan, Kyle Echarri, Esang de Torres, Reynan Dal-Anay, Sassa Dagdag, and Elha Nympha spoke about their journey to the top and who they think will serve as their biggest competition this season.

Zephanie and Kyle are on coach Sarah Geronimo’s team, Esang and Reynan are on coach Lea Salonga’s team, and Sassa and Elha are on coach Bamboo Manalac’s team.

Competition

When it comes to the live competitions coming up, only Reynan specified who he thought was the best singer among the 6 of them. “Lahat naman po kami… lahat naman po kami magagaling pero… si Kyle po yung pinaka magaling,” he said.

(We’re all… we’re all good but… Kyle is the best.)

Coach Bamboo, meanwhile, answered for his team: “Their biggest challenge is me. Kasi ako (Because I’m), I’m the one who – yung expectaions ko sa kanila mataas parati (My expectatoons of them are always high).

“Pag may ginawa sila (If they do something) even at a certain point, I expect more from them… so I’m the worst critic para pag dating sa (so when it comes to the) stage they’ll be as prepared, hopefully.”

Zephanie added that although the 6 are competing against each other, they’ll be friends no matter what happens. “Para sa akin lang po, kahit magkakalaban po kami, friends pa rin po kami kahit ano po mangyari.” (For me, even though we’re all competing against each other, we’re still friends no matter what happens.)

From the Blind Auditions to the Semi-finals

All of the kids expressed joy and disbelief when it came to how they felt about getting into the Top 6.

For Kyle, who is on Team Sarah, it’s a blessing to be a part of the 6 not only because they were chosen out of the many who auditioned, but because he wasn’t even expecting to get through the blind auditions. “For me, myself, I wasn’t really expecting anything – like even [in] the [blind auditions] – so yeah it’s really just a blessing,” he said.

Reynan also said that he would give his all when it comes to the semi-final, because of the tough competition. “Delikado na po yung semi final kasi… matindi na po yung laban po. Kapag semi-final na po, kagaya ng ngayon po, bibigay ko na yung dito po sa puso ko.”

(The semi-finals are where it gets really tough because… the competition is on another level. When it comes to the semi-finals, I will give what’s in my heart.)

Zephanie added that just being a part of The Voice Kids PH is her dream come true: “Hindi rin rin ineexpect na makakapasok ako sa live shows kasi dati-dati lang po magauaudition lang ako tapos di po ako natatanggap, so ngayon po parang talaga pong dream come true para sa amin ng family ko po and at saka para sa mga dreams ko po na natutupad na po ngayon.

(I also didn’t expect to get into the live shows before, I would audition and wouldn’t get in, so now this is really a dream come true for my family at for the dreams that I’m achieving now.)

Newfound fame

The kids also spoke about their sudden popularity during the press conference.

Esang and Kyle have encountered people asking them for autographs and pictures in school. Esang simply signs “Esang” for her school friends when they ask for her autopraph, while Kyle shares that his teachers have been “nicer” to him. “And my teachers, [are] like ‘Let’s take a picture before you leave because you might get famous and I need a picture,'” Kyle said.

Zephanie also shared that she catches people at the mall talking about her or looking about her. “Meron po kaming nakakasalubong ‘Uy si Zephanie yun, yung nasa The Voice,’ tapos minsan hindi ko nakikita tumitingin na po sa likod, tapos nagha-hi po ako and minsan naman po may nagpapa-picture po sa akin,” she said.

(We come across people who say ‘Hey it’s Zephanie from The Voice,’ and sometimes I don’t see them but they’re looking behind me, and I say ‘Hi,’ and sometimes people ask to take a picture with me.)

Elha, on the other hand, doesn’t feel that she’s quite that famous yet. She said, “Feeling ko po hindi pa po ako sikat kasi po, ano po eh, hindi pa po naman tayo nakakrating sa grand finals at saka po di pa rin tayo nakakarating sa semi-finals.”

(I don’t feel like I’m famous yet, because I haven’t reached the grand finals yet, nor have we had the semi-finals yet.)
