Jaya paid tribute to the late former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino by singing his favorite song during his wake on Friday, June 25.
Jaya performed “Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako,” which was originally sang by Celeste Legaspi.
“Noy loved music so much and this is why it’s very important for me to be able to do this for my brother,” TV host and actress Kris Aquino, the former president’s youngest sister, said.
She added that her brother had spent hours researching the song and listened to it again and again, “It was his favorite song and it speaks so much about him.”
“We don’t know why that was his favorite song, but now, we understand na para sa kanya (for him), it was enough that there was a time that you all had chosen him and given him the greatest honor that you could anybody give,” Kris shared.
Kris thanked Jaya for performing the song, noting that the singer only learned it for the wake.
Moira dela Torre also performed a rewritten version of her song “Paubaya” during the wake.
Aquino died of renal disease secondary to diabetes on Thursday, June 24. He was 61.
Aquino was the only son of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former president Corazon Aquino, two Philippine democracy icons. He served as president from 2010 to 2016. – Rappler.com
