The song was used in a campaign ad for Noynoy in 2010, and was also performed at his inauguration

OPM icons Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid performed at the burial mass for former president Noynoy Aquino on Saturday, June 26, sending him off with a song they once sang to support his bid for the presidency.

As the urn containing Noynoy’s remains were carried out of Ateneo’s Church of the Gesu, Regine and Ogie sang “Hindi Ka Nag-iisa,” a song about coming together and sharing hope for a brighter future.

Regine performed the song in a campaign ad for Aquino during his bid in 2010. Joined by Ogie, she also sang it at his inauguration in the same year.

During Noynoy’s term, Ogie served as the president of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit, a group that supports Filipino musicians. His projects for the group were supported by Noynoy, who in 2011 also appointed the singer as music and entertainment convenor of the 25th EDSA People Power commemoration.

Noynoy also appointed Ogie’s father, the late Herminio Alcasid Sr., to the board of the Philippine National Oil Company Development and Management Corporation (PNOC).

Noynoy was also a groomsman at Regine and Ogie’s wedding in 2010, which Ogie shared was the beginning of a good friendship.

Posting a tribute on Instagram on June 24, Ogie remembered the former president as a dear friend.

Ogie recalled how the former president loved music, and how many of their gatherings would end with singing. He shared that when they would visit Noynoy, he would always play his favorite CDs.

Sa mga nagdaang taon, walang patid ang kumustahan sa text lalo na tuwing may espesyal na okasyon. Noong pumanaw ang aking ama, isa sya sa di nakalimot na mag abot ng pakikiramay,” he said.

(As the years went by, we stayed in touch by text, especially during special occasions. When my dad died, he was one of those who gave condolences.)

Mahal ka namin,” he said.

(His last days, our communication continued. I am enveloped by sadness with your death, sir Pnoy. I am so lucky sir Pnoy that you called me a friend. Rest, sir. We love you.)

Noynoy died on June 24 of renal failure secondary to diabetes. He served as president from 2010 to 2016. – Rappler.com
