Ukokkei Ramen Ron, one of the first restaurants to jump-start the ramen craze in Metro Manila, now offers kits so customers can enjoy the indulgent dish at home.

Ramen Ron PH, a partnership between Ukkokei Ramen Ron’s Tamura-san, and mother-and-son tandem Margarita and Amado Fores, will be taking in orders for their take-home kits beginning Tuesday, November 3.

In an Instagram post, Margarita Fores – the chef behind Metro Manila staples such as Cibo, Lusso, and Grace Park – said she had once been “thrown out” of Ukkokei because “[she] insisted on bringing [her] diet coke into the restaurant, which [Tamura-san] did not allow.”

The partnership, said Margarita, was facilitated by a cousin – “one of the few who could make [Tamura-san] smile.” Amado himself has ventured into the food business. He runs Amano and The Food Trip.

So far, Ramen Ron offers 5 items:

  • Miso Chashu (P480)
  • Shoyu Chashu (P480)
  • Tantanmen (P480)
  • Hiyashi Goma or cold sesame (P470)
  • Frozen gyoza (P180 for 5 pieces)

The kit comes in a box with the ramen components, instructions, and a pair of disposable chopsticks. One box serves one but can be stretch to two servings if you aren’t that hungry (or if you wanna leave more space for the gyoza). The instructions are clear and easy enough to follow.

For the tantanmen kit, for instance, everything’s straightforward – you just need to heat the tantanmen sauce, cook the noodles separately in boiling water, and assemble. The shoyu chashu is a little more involved – you’ll first need to heat the chashu and shoyu sauce (they both come in sealed packets) in boiling water, boil the Ukkokei broth, cook the noodles, and assemble.

All in all, however, you don’t really need more than 10 minutes to assemble the ramen kit. What’s nice is that it’s easy to adjust the sauce to your taste – just dilute if the sauce is too strong for your liking (look out for the tantanmen – it’s a zinger).

Kits can be kept inside the fridge for up to two days, while the gyoza can be kept frozen for 7 days, but both are best consumed as soon as you get them – which shouldn’t be a problem at all.

You may place your orders through this link or the link found on the ramen shop’s Instagram page.

The kits are distributed from 2314 White Space Manila in Makati City, with same-day delivery cutoff at 4 pm. The pickup window is between 11 am to 6 pm. Customers can either pick the kits up themselves or arrange for an in-house courier service. There’s a P500 minimum order for deliveries within Makati and BGC in Taguig City, while it’s a minimum of P800 for everywhere else.

Customers can pay via cash on delivery, BDO bank transfer, or GCash. Payment details will be sent along with your total bill and delivery date and time. – Rappler.com
