Ms PH Earth Lipa City: Jillian Kristin Deveza
MANILA, Philippines - In line with the Miss Philippines Earth 2013 pageant's water conservation theme, this 23-year-old certified public accountant and law student says, "I can take advantage of social media and be vocal about what the Philippines needs in terms of taking care of our water resources. Still, more than spreading knowledge, I must take the initiative — one small step at a time — in conserving water at home, at school and at work as an example to my family, classmates, students and colleagues.
Describe your childhood/growing-up years (8-13 years old):
During my childhood, I was brought up focused on my academics. Still, beyond being a consistent honor student, it was first and foremost being a good “ate” (older sister) to my siblings.
Most memorable moment:
My most memorable moment was when I received the Presidential Award during our last recognition day in college. It is the most prestigious award given in our school by the Brother President. It is memorable because I’ve never seen my mom so proud and thankful to the Lord.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
My environmental advocacy has always been promoting waste segregation and recycling. I have been actively pursuing this for about 7 years, as its sustainability not only conserves natural resources as well as energy, but also prevents pollution. Anyone can do it, and it is always a win-win situation for our environment and us.
