OCCIDENTAL MINDORO, Philippines – The crew of fishing vessel Gem-Ver are on their way home.

One June 9, the vessel sunk after its rear was rammed by a Chinese ship. The 22-man crew of the Philippine vessel was abandoned in the open seas after the incident. They were later rescued by a Vietnamese vessel, which turned them over to the Philippine Navy. (READ: AFP: Chinese vessel’s sinking of PH boat ‘far from accidental’)

Hundreds of kilometers away, their families were anxiously waiting for them here, hoping to see them safe.
