Defense to prosecution: Don’t poison public’s mind

MANILA, Philippines- Stop these “underhanded tactics.”

The defense team in the Corona impeachment relayed this message to prosecutors who continued to talk to media openly about the supposed evidence that they have against the impeached Chief Justice.

Lawyer Jose Roy III, one of Corona’s defense counsels, told reporters that they were grateful for the Senate’s warning for both sides to stop talking about their evidence before the media.

He said they are likely to seek a gag order against the prosecution team if it continues granting media interviews about Corona’s alleged properties.

“Let’s not get ahead of this,” Roy told reporters covering the impeachment trial at the Senate. “We do hope the prosecution stops resorting to these underhanded tactics” meant to “poison the minds of the public” watching the impeachment trial.

The Chief Justice’s assets will most likely be tackled on Tuesday, January 17,as the impeachment court resumes its trial. – Rappler.com
