Only 10% of Philippine convicts have received COVID-19 vaccines

The Philippine government has vaccinated only 10% of convicted prisoners in correctional facilities nationwide, data from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) showed.

Of the 48,511 convicts in seven penal colonies in the country, only 4,774 have received either the first dose or both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to BuCor data as of Monday, October 18.

More than 8 out of 10 COVID-19 positives in September 2021 have Delta variant

The Department of Health on Monday, October 18, reported that 84.63% or 633 of the 748 positive samples recently sequenced were found to have the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told reporters that the samples of recent run of genome sequencing came from September 2021 cases.

Virus epicenter Metro Manila has the highest number of Delta cases in the latest batch of genome sequencing results, with 170 cases detected.
