Moreno was released due to insufficient evidence of illegal gambling, while Mayor Alfredo Lim said he had nothing do with the arrest

MANILA, Philippines – Manila Vice Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso was released Sunday, February 17, after he was arrested by police the previous night for alleged illegal gambling, the politician announced via Twitter.

“Finally we were released by Fiscal (Elaine) Cerezo for insufficiency of evidence! We thank everyone for their prayers and support, proof that we did not do anything wrong,” he said in a tweet at 4:12 am, Sunday (Manila time).

Manila Mayor and Moreno’s political rival Alfredo Lim reacted to the arrest claiming on Sunday he had nothing to do with it.

“It’s not because you’re an elected official, you’re above the law,” Lim said, according to radio reports.

Lim, the incumbent mayor, is running against Moreno’s running mate in the upcoming elections, former President Joseph Estrada.

Moreno told Rappler on Saturday night that Lim is behind the arrest and that the police are fabricating charges against him. – with reports from Carlos Santamaria/Rappler.com
