MANILA, Philippines – Press freedom advocates, activists, and student organizations continue to remember the gruesome Maguindanao massacre on its 13th year on Wednesday, November 23.

Led by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, a protest was held in front of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Mass Communication, and then later at the UP Oblation, to honor the 58 people killed in the horrific incident.

In 2009, the massacre triggered by political conflict in Maguindanao took the lives of at least 32 media workers. Over a decade later, the fight continues, especially for the family of the 58th victim, Reynaldo Momay, who has yet to be acknowledged by the court because his remains have never been found.
