Frencheska Farr was named Outstanding Dramatic Actress at the Micheaux Film Festival on May 2.
Frencheska shared a photo of the award on Instagram, saying she was “beyond grateful.”
“What an amazing experience! [Harana] was awarded Outstanding Music and I won Outstanding Dramatic Actress at the [Micheaux Film Festival]!!!” she said.
She then thanked the organizers saying that it “really means so much for me to be able to share our stories and not only to be able to move people through our art, but also to spark change for the betterment of all.”
She went on to thank the team behind Harana, including director Marie Jamora and producers Matthew Keene Smith and Jason McLagan. She also thanked her family and friends.
“This is dedicated to the Filipino people and everyone fighting the good fight. Keep shining your light!” she said.
Harana is a short film that follows a cover band singer in Las Vegas who writes a song for her daughter in the Philippines.
The Micheaux Film Festival, named after African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, is a festival that highlights the work of BIPOC creators. The 2021 festival ran from April 26 to May 2. – Rappler.com
