'Drag Race Philippines' opens season 1 casting

RuPaul announced early Tuesday, August 17, that they have opened casting for Drag Race Philippines.

"Calling all queens. If you think you have what it takes to become the first Drag Race superstar from the Philippines, we wanna hear from you. Show us your charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, and this could be the beginning of the rest of your life," said RuPaul, announcing the Philippine franchise of the popular television series.

World of Wonder cofounders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, in a statement to media, said they were "thrilled to exclusively premiere Drag Race Philippines on the platform for our global viewers," referring to WOW Presents Plus.

Interested applicants just need to visit the Drag Race Philippines site to sign up for the casting call.

RuPaul's Drag Race, a reality drag competition, first premiered in 2009. The Drag Race franchise, created by RuPaul and World of Wonder, spans different countries, including Thailand, Holland, the UK, and Spain.

One of the original series' most popular queens, Filipino-American Manila Luzon, is set to host another drag queen reality competition, Drag Den Philippines. The show, a production by Philippines-based Cornerstone Entertainment, recently opened their casting as well.

World of Wonder has yet to announce other details about Drag Race Philippines, including its host, panel, and target airing date. ā€“ Rappler.com
