Bond star’s year-old marriage confirmed

MANILA, Philippines – Bond star Ben Whishaw married his partner, Australian composer Mark Bradshaw, in a secret civil ceremony in August 2012 that is confirmed only this year, the “Mirror” reported on August 4.

Whishaw, 32, is notable for TV and film appearances such as BBC’s “The Hour,” the thriller “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” the sci-fi “Cloud Atlas,” and period dramas “Brideshead Revisited” and “Bright Star,” with Australian actress Abbie Cornish.

Whishaw took over the role of James Bond’s associate Q in last year’s “Skyfall,” giving the fogey inventor portrayed by Desmond Llewelyn since 1963’s “From Russia with Love” a younger, metrosexual makeover.

The “Mirror” describes the hair-tossed English actor as “everyone’s fantasy boyfriend.”

Whishaw’s spokesman confirmed his marriage last year exactly this month. 

“Due to speculation, I can confirm that Ben and Mark entered into a civil partnership in August 2012,” Whishaw’s spokesman said.

“They were proud to do so and are very happy.

“Ben has never hidden his sexuality, but like many actors he prefers not to discuss his family or life outside of his work.”

According to the mirror, Whishaw met Bradshaw when they were both working for “Bright Star” (released 2009).

As his spokesman has noted, the Bafta-winning actor was never one to hug the limelight. 

“For me, it’s important to keep a level of anonymity,” he said in an interview as quoted by the “Mirror.”

“As an actor, your job is to persuade people that you’re someone else. So if you’re constantly telling people about yourself, I think you’re shooting yourself in the foot.” – Rappler.com
