MANILA, Philippines – Despite the shift to digital, the Filipino komiks community has found a way to keep the scene alive and thriving. Online platform Penlab, for example, has housed many works of Filipino writers and creators in the past three years.
In this episode of Stan by Me, Rappler’s talk show on all things fandom, we chat with Bernie Mercado, founder of Penlab, publisher and distributor of local Pinoy komiks; and Marian Hukom, Penlab komiks creator and Rappler’s graphic artist.
We find out how the platform came to be, the importance of spaces like Penlab for budding creators, and what they hope to see in the local komiks scene in the future.
