A 68-year old barangay chairman was gunned down, while a security guard was in critical condition in two separate shooting incidents in Lipa City in Batangas on Wednesday, June 9,

Lipa police identified the fatality as Cesar Catibog, chairman of Barangay Pagolingin East, Lipa City. 

According to reports, Catibog had just alighted from his patrol vehicle along P. Torres St when an unidentified gunman shot him around 7:40 am, Wednesday.

Catibog was rushed by his driver Joseph Surco to the NL Villa Memorial Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. 

After the shooting, the suspect fled towards Lipa City proper and disappeared. 

Meanwhile, security guard Joseph Soriano, 51, was seriously wounded when a gunman shot him several times while inside the meat section of Lipa public market around 6:20 am, Wednesday.

The suspects, who escaped by foot, left behind their motorcycle with plate number VP5293. The motorbike was registered to a certain Rodel Noche Bayoneto of Barangay Sampaga, Balayan, Batangas.
