Piñol said on Monday, October 4, that he had tendered his resignation, which would be effective the following day, and that he would file his certificate of candidacy on Friday, October 8.
Piñol said he would run under the banner of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, the party chaired by Senate President Vicente Sotto III, who has declared his vice presidential bid.
In his resignation letter, Piñol thanked President Rodrigo Duterte “for the opportunity to serve the country.”
He said his friendship with Duterte would remain steadfast and never be affected by politics.
