MANILA, Philippines – Six weeks away from their first triathlon, Ton, Juls and Amanda get swim tips from former Olympian and GAMEPLAN host, Akiko Thomson Guevarra, and get drilled by Coach Ige Lopez on efficient running form under stress.

Akiko advises that to swim better, the first thing to do is relax. In terms of efficient techniques, she says swim on the surface of the water, have longer strokes that glide thru the water and swim on your side as you switch arm pulls.

Having short strokes, Amanda has to learn how swim longer and extend her arms more. Ton’s good upper body strength allows him to have stronger strokes but he has to do more drills on his right side. Juls’ hips tend to sink during his swim and needs a conscious effort to lift his hips up.

After the swim session, Ton, Juls and Amanda meet up with Coach Ige to do a run session. Coach Ige suggests to always land mid-foot or fore foot and align shoulders, hip bone and knee when running. To test this under stress, Juls, ton, and Amanda were given intervals of 10 sets of 200m around an oval making sure that the last five sets were faster than the first five.
