Google on Wednesday, August 5, launched a feature that will allow smartphone users to keep their data more secure through PIN-encrypted folders.
The feature, called Safe Folder, is available through Google’s Files app, and allows users to use 4-digit pins to store important documents, images, videos, and audio files locked in a folder.
Inside the folder, users will not be able to take screenshots and screen recordings. The folder is also locked automatically when a user switches to another app.
“This feature will be initially available to more than 2 million users with the rollout gradually expanding to all of Files’ users over the next few weeks,” says Google.
Files is a file management app which Google markets for its ability to save users smartphone storage by identifying duplicate or junk files.
Google says the app now has 150 million users since being launched in December 2017.
Files is available through Google Play Store for all phones running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and higher. Meanwhile, Safe Folder will be available for Android 8.0 (Oreo) and above. – Rappler.com
