Sofia Virtudes is a digital communications specialist for Rappler. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
Fresh out of college, Sofia started working at Rappler as an intern, where she wrote stories on the community and the ordinary Filipino. Her background in development communication has imbued in her a sense of duty – and more especially, the passion – to write for and about the masses and amplify their voices.
She advocates for women empowerment and gender equality.
Before joining Rappler, she was a full-time furmom to Elio, a clever, people-loving golden retriever who has mastered “playing dead,” among other tricks.
On better days, Sofia does covers of her favorite songs; otherwise, she quotes them on Twitter. She also enjoys karaoke to a fault – she can get greedy.
