MANILA, Philippines – Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla attended the agency’s flag ceremony on Monday, October 17 – among his first public appearances since the arrest of his son.

This was also the first time Remulla had faced the DOJ since he confirmed the arrest of his son, Juanito Jose, on October 13 for an alleged drug offense. In his Monday appearance, there was no mention of Juanito Jose’s case.

The justice secretary’s speech was also short: “Karamihan ng trabaho natin ang deadline kahapon pa so let’s all go back to work (The deadline on most of our tasks was yesterday so let’s all go back to work). Good morning.”

Remulla did not grant an interview with the members of the media after the ceremony. He has also yet to respond to queries and interview requests from justice reporters.

Last week, Remulla’s son was arrested for alleged importation of kush or high-grade marijuana and for violating customs law. It took two days before the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, one of the lead agencies who arrested Remulla, to provide further details on the incident.

Remulla’s son is currently facing charges for illegal possession of dangerous drugs filed by Las Piñas prosecutors. Meanwhile, the complaints for importation of dangerous drugs and violation of customs law were already referred to Pasay City prosecutors’ office. – Rappler.com
