The TNT Tropang Giga sustained their blazing start in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup as they took down the Magnolia Hotshots, 83-76, at the DHVSU Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga on Sunday, September 5.
Jayson Castro finished with 17 points, while rookie Mikey Williams added 14 markers for the Tropang Giga, who moved closer to a quarterfinals berth with an unblemished 6-0 record.
Leading by only 7 points, 59-52, at the start of the final period, the Tropang Giga proved why they are the best team in the league as they stretched their lead to as many as 13 points, 69-56, off a Castro three-pointer with seven minutes left to play.
The Hotshots managed to stay within striking distance, cutting the lead back to just 6 points, 78-72, with 1:19 remaining in the game, but TNT big man Poy Erram erased any hopes of a Magnolia comeback as he sealed the ball game with a booming three-pointer.
Veteran forward Kelly Williams also came up big for the Tropang Giga as he tallied a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds, while RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Calvin Abueva had 23 points, while Paul Lee contributed 13 markers for the Hotshots, who moved down to 5-2 in the standings, tied with the Meralco Bolts.
