
MANILA, Philippines – Aries Toledo locked in the country’s 9th gold after prevailing in the 29th Southeast Asian Games’ men’s decathlon event on Wednesday, August 23 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in KL Sports City, Malaysia.
Toledo, 23, of Nueva Ecija finished way ahead of his competitors in the final event of the 1500m decathlon, and collected a total of 7,433 points, breaking the previous national record of 7,126 points.
Thailand’s Suttisak Singkon grabbed the silver after registering 7,411 points, while Vietnam’s Bui Van Su had 6,737 points that earned him the bronze.
The Philippines so far has won 9 golds, 14 silvers, and 19 bronzes in the biennial contest. – Rappler.com
