China plays the role of a generous ally to several contries as it continues to donate vaccines against COVID-19, a move seen by many experts as an effort to “repair its tarnished image.”

But its continuing incursions in the West Philippine Sea, recently with hundreds of Chinese vessels, betray the camaraderie and diplomacy it wants to achieve.
