MANILA, Philippines — Words, as well as actions, reveal a person’s character. When he was alive, Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon Sr delivered not only movie punchlines but statements that provide a peek into his personality.

Here are some of Dolphy’s memorable lines, compiled from various tributes days before his burial Sunday, July 15.

1. On the most important part of his make-up

Says film director Marlon Rivera in a piece for Rappler, “Ang sabi lang niya sa akin nung na-make-up-an ko na s’ya sa shoot ng Markova, ‘Bahala ka na, basta ‘yung mata buhayin mo.’” (The only thing he said when I was doing his make-up for Markova, “It’s up to you, but give life to the eyes.”)

2. On running in the elections

“Hindi problema ang tumakbo. Hindi problema ang manalo. Kaso kapag nanalo ako ano ang gagawin ko?” (Running is not the problem. Winning is not the problem. The problem is, what will I do if I win?) (Read: Dolphy and his bold political choices)

3. On his Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart

“I will treasure this award – until my memorial park… Talagang tumaba ang puso ko. Hindi lang ako, kundi buong pamilya ko, mga kaibigan ko.” (My heart is full. Not only myself, but also my whole family, my friends.)

4. On his feeling about being called the Comedy King

“Parang nayayabangan ako. Baka kasi isipin ng tao ako talaga ang nagpursigeng maging Comedy King. Pero hindi, talagang nagamay na ng taong tinatawag ako ng ganu’n.” (I feel it’s too boastful. 5. On his achievements

“Halos lahat naabot ko na. Mabait sa akin si Lord. Maaaring hindi ako naging multimillionaire na talagang mayaman na mayaman. Pero I consider myself na mayaman na rin ako dahil sa marami akong kaibigan, maraming nagmamahal sa akin.” (I’ve attained almost everything. God has been god to me.
