On the eve of the lowering of the strictest lockdown in Metro Manila, the Philippines on Friday, August 20 logs 17,231 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day tally since the pandemic began.

The health department failed to spend P2.07 billion in its pandemic response funds after it parked the funds at the budget department procurement service or DBM-PS for future procurement.

P95.46 million worth of surgical masks and face shields are lying idle at the Procurement Service and various regional depots, as the attached agency of the Department of Budget and Management failed to sell it when the demand was high in 2020.
