[WATCH] Percy Lapid’s life behind the microphone
Behind Percy's tough guy brand is a loving family man

MANILA, Philippines – Hard-hitting broadcaster Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa was gunned down by assailants in Las Piñas City on October 3. He was the second journalist to be killed under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and the 197th since Philippine democracy was restored in 1986.

His death revealed flaws in the Philippine jail system after confessed gunman Joel Escorial implicated prisoners inside the New Bilibid Prison under the Bureau of Corrections. As of November 2, there are at least 13 prisoners among the 160 persons of interest in the killing.

Lapid is known for his feisty commentaries against government officials, including Marcos and former president Rodrigo Duterte. His decades-long experience in radio broadcasting honed Lapid’s brand of fiery commentaries.

But behind his tough guy image, Lapid is a loving family man. Watch this video as veteran journalist Roy Mabasa, Lapid’s brother, narrates the life of a man who dedicated his life to radio. – Rappler.com
